Chinese Foreign Minister Calls for a Security Partnership Between China and Islamic Countries

China’s foreign minister, in a meeting with the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, stressed that Beijing and Islamic countries should establish a security partnership to advance political solutions to regional crises and preserve stability in the Middle East.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Wang Yi, China’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated that Beijing and Islamic countries should establish a “security partnership” to help resolve regional crises through political approaches and to strengthen stability and security in sensitive regions.

According to China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang made the remarks during a meeting with Hussein Ibrahim Taha, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in Beijing. He said China is ready to work with Islamic countries to safeguard the “legitimate rights and interests” of developing nations and to oppose a return to the “law of the jungle” in global affairs.

The Chinese foreign minister stressed that Beijing has always attached strategic importance to developing relations with Islamic countries and the OIC, and he expressed appreciation for their firm support for China’s positions on Taiwan.

Addressing the OIC Secretary-General, Wang Yi said, “Both sides should build a security partnership to promote political solutions to regional hotspot issues, oppose power politics and bullying, and preserve peace and stability in the Middle East.”

Emphasizing high-quality cooperation within the Belt and Road Initiative and the alignment of development strategies, he added that the two sides should also establish a “civilizational partnership” to strengthen dialogue among civilizations, expand exchanges of governance experience, and jointly counter the theory of the “superiority of certain civilizations.”

Wang also called on both sides to adhere to “genuine multilateralism,” saying China and Islamic countries should uphold the central role of the United Nations and the fundamental norms of international relations, and contribute to shaping a fairer and more balanced system of global governance.

He described the Organization of Islamic Cooperation as the largest intergovernmental institution in the Islamic world and called it “an important symbol of unity and independence among Islamic countries.”

At the meeting, Hussein Ibrahim Taha said the OIC opposes “external interference in China’s internal affairs” and is ready to work with Beijing to deepen the partnership and to preserve regional peace, stability, and prosperity.

According to China’s Foreign Ministry, the OIC Secretary-General also praised China’s active role in advancing a comprehensive, sustainable, and just solution to the Palestinian issue and expressed hope that Beijing will play an even greater role in this regard.
